Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 27, 2026

This policy explains what information Rental Fox collects at rentalfoxcompare.com, how it is used, and the choices you have. Rental Fox is operated by James Packer, doing business as Rental Fox, in Idaho, USA ("Rental Fox," "we," "us"). You can reach us at rentalfoxcompare@gmail.com.

The short version

  • You can search Rental Fox without creating an account or giving us your name, email, or phone number.
  • We use Vercel Web Analytics, which does not use cookies, to count page visits and clicks.
  • If you list equipment, we collect the details you enter. We publish the listing, but never your phone number or email address. Renters reach you through our contact form, and we forward their messages to you.
  • If you contact an owner through our form, we collect your name, contact details, and message, and send them to that owner.
  • We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

1. Information we collect

a. When you browse or search

  • Search inputs. The ZIP code and equipment type you search for are part of the page address (for example, `/search?zip=83702&equipment=skid-steer`). Your browser also saves the last five-digit ZIP code you entered in its local storage (as `rental-fox-zip`) so the site can fill it in next time. That value stays on your device, and you can clear it by clearing your browser's site data.
  • Job cost estimator. The math runs in your browser. What you enter in the estimator is not saved or sent to us.
  • Analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand which pages are used. It does not use cookies. For each page view or event it may record:
    • the time;
    • the page address and the referring page;
    • the general location (country, region, and city);
    • the device type, operating system, and browser.

Vercel states that it identifies a visit with a hash of the incoming request that is discarded after 24 hours, and that the data is used for aggregated statistics only.

  • Click counts. When you click a rental shop's call button, website link, or directions link, or send a message to an owner, we record a "lead" event. It contains the type of action, which shop or listing it was for, the equipment category, and the type of page. It does not contain your name, contact details, or message.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider, Vercel, receives technical information when your browser requests a page, including your IP address and browser details. This is used to deliver the site, keep it secure, and troubleshoot.

b. When you list equipment (owner listings)

If you submit the "List your equipment" form, we collect:

  • your first name;
  • your phone number and/or email address;
  • your city and ZIP code;
  • the equipment details you enter: category, make and model, description, daily and weekly price, and whether you offer delivery;
  • up to four photos;
  • the date and time you submitted the form, and your agreement to our Terms of Use.

We do not ask for your last name or street address. Please don't put them, or anyone else's personal information, in the description or photos. We remove location data (such as GPS coordinates) and other hidden metadata from photos when they are uploaded.

c. When you contact an owner through our form (the "relay")

Owner phone numbers and email addresses are not shown on the site. To ask about a listed item, you use our contact form. It collects:

  • your name;
  • your email address and/or phone number;
  • your message;
  • the listing you are asking about, and the date and time you sent it.

d. When you email us

We receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.

2. How we use information

  • To show the directory, search results, prices, and estimates.
  • To review owner listings before they appear and, if we approve them, to publish them to people looking for that kind of equipment.
  • To forward relay messages. When you send a message through the contact form, we forward your name, contact details, and message to the owner of that listing so the owner can reply to you directly. When the owner replies, you will see whatever contact details the owner chooses to use.
  • To contact owners about their listings, for example to ask a question, to say a listing was approved or removed, or to confirm a deletion.
  • To prevent spam, fraud, and misuse. Relay messages pass through automated spam filtering. We may read a message, or hold it instead of forwarding it, if it is flagged as possible spam or abuse, if someone reports it, or if we need to investigate a problem or enforce our Terms of Use.
  • To count visits, clicks, and messages so we know which pages are useful. We may show rental shops and owners how many clicks or messages their listing received, as totals that do not identify anyone.
  • To keep the site secure, comply with the law, and respond to legal requests.

3. What is public

When we approve an owner listing, anyone visiting the site can see the owner's first name, city, and ZIP code, plus the equipment details, prices, and photos. We do not display owners' phone numbers or email addresses. Pending and rejected listings are not shown. Relay messages are never published.

Rental shop listings (businesses) show business information that the shop published on its own website, such as name, address, phone, website, hours, equipment, and published prices.

Anything shown publicly can be copied by others, and we cannot control what they do with it.

4. Who we share information with

We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral or targeted advertising. We share information only:

  • With the owner you contact, as described in section 2 (your relay message and contact details).
  • With service providers that run the site for us. Vercel Inc. hosts the website and its analytics and stores listing photos. We also use service providers to store listing records and to deliver relay and administrative emails. Our service providers may use the information only to provide their services to us.
  • If the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or Rental Fox.
  • If Rental Fox is sold or reorganized. The information may be transferred to the new operator, who must continue to protect it as this policy describes.

5. How long we keep information

  • Approved listings are kept until you ask us to delete them or we remove them. Photos are deleted with the listing.
  • Rejected listings are deleted within 30 days of rejection. Listings that are started but never completed are deleted after 90 days.
  • Relay messages. We keep a copy of each message and the sender's contact details for 90 days after it is sent, so we can handle spam, abuse reports, and delivery problems. Then we delete it. The owner's copy of a forwarded message is in the owner's own inbox or phone, and we cannot delete it.
  • Emails with us are kept as long as needed to handle your request, and for up to 3 years for our records.
  • Analytics data is aggregated. Vercel's visit hash is discarded after 24 hours.
  • Deleted information may remain for a short period in backups or caches before it is overwritten.

6. Your choices and requests

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we have about you, and give you a copy;
  • correct it;
  • delete it. For owners, this includes removing your listing and photos.

Email rentalfoxcompare@gmail.com. If you are an owner, write from the email address on your listing, or tell us the first name, phone number, and equipment on the listing so we can find it. We may need to confirm the request came from you. We aim to respond within 45 days, and we will not treat you differently for making a request.

State privacy laws. Residents of some states, including Utah and California, have privacy rights under state law. Some of these laws apply only to businesses above certain size or revenue thresholds. Whether or not such a law applies to us, we honor the requests above for everyone. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. If that ever changes, we will update this policy first and give you a way to opt out.

Do Not Track. Our site does not change its behavior in response to browser "Do Not Track" signals. We do not track visitors across other websites, and we do not allow third parties to do so on our site.

7. Security

We use reputable hosting and storage providers that encrypt data in transit and at rest. Access to listing information and relay messages is limited to the people who run Rental Fox. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so please do not send sensitive information such as government ID numbers or financial account details through the site or by email.

8. Children

Rental Fox is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. You must be 18 or older to submit a listing or use the contact form. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email rentalfoxcompare@gmail.com and we will delete it.

9. Other websites

Our pages link to rental shops' websites, Google Maps, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and other sites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one.

10. Changes to this policy

We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we use information we already hold, we will tell owners by email before the change applies to their information.
