Which scissor lift size do you need?

Size classes

Scissor lifts are usually named by platform height, the floor you stand on. Working height is typically about 6 feet more. Confirm which number the rental shop is using.

  • About 19 feet of platform: a single-story ceiling or a soffit.
  • About 26 feet of platform: a tall room, warehouse racking, or a two-story eave.
  • About 32 feet of platform: higher exterior work. These machines are heavier and wider, so check the door, the floor load, and the truck.

Slab and rough terrain

A slab lift rolls on small tires and needs flat concrete. It is the wrong machine for mud or a slope.

A rough-terrain lift uses larger tires, often with outriggers, and sits on outdoor ground. It is heavier to haul.

Local rental shops publish a SkyJack labeled 19 feet. Confirm platform height, weight, and slab or rough terrain with the rental shop.

Ask the rental shop about size, delivery, fuel, and the rental period. The rates below are from Salt Lake Valley rental shops.
